1. Visit the Council for the Accreditation of Counseling and Related Programs (CACREP) website at cacrep.org. Review the 2016 CACREP Standards with a special eye on Section II: Professional Identity. These are the Standards used to develop your coursework in the BU Clinical Counseling program. Identify three specific standards you are most interested in learning more about in your upcoming coursework.
2. Research the American Counseling Association (ACA) and the American Clinical Mental Health Association (AMHCA) via their websites and professional publications. Summarize the mission statement of each organization and a brief summary of research trends found in their publications/journals of the last six months. Review Counseling Today (ACA magazine); Journal of Counseling & Development, and the Journal of Mental Health Counseling.
Using the ACA website (counseling.org) locate your State’s counseling licensure body. Read your State’s licensure law and the application carefully. Then summarize:
• degree required;
• number of Internship hours required within your counseling program;
• examination required to apply for the license in your State;
• and the number of post-graduate supervised hours required for full licensure and the identified period of time allowed to earn the hours.
