Chapter 3 draws distinctions between the functions of the family unit. Which of these functions is the most important to the maintenance of deep structure of culture? Why? Does your opinion create advantages for you? How does your position limit you? (For example, if I think 'reproduction' is the most important, I may be emboldened by the fact that I have 5 children.
